Many events in the fields of culture, sport and traditions are held in Salzburg. All year round you have can participate in many events. Depending on the season, these shows and events are either indoor or outdoor. Many events are available free of charge.

WHAT ARE THE ANNUAL HIGHLIGHTS IN SALZBURG?

There is something going on in Salzburg all year round. People come together at events and want to have a good time together.

• Salzburg Festival
  The Salzburg Festival is held every year in the summer. The famous “Everyman” performance is also shown there.
• Summer Szene
  In summer, there is also the “Summer Scene” with theatre, dance and performance shows.
• Salzburg Literature Festival
  There are readings and stories, novels, poems and more throughout the whole city.
• Electric Love Festival
  Festival of electronic music at the Salzburgring
• Live in Salzburg
  Live music, workshops, sports programme and summer cinema are available throughout the summer within the framework of the “Live in the park” – and all free of charge.
• Open Air Cinema “Sternenkino”
  The Kapitelplatz in summer becomes an open-air cinema and shows many good films free of charge at the Star Cinema.
• Running events
  Salzburg Marathon, Salzburg Women’s Run, Mozart 100 Run, Salzburg Business Run
• Rupertikirtag
  A Folk Festival, where traditional costumes are worn and traditions are celebrated.
• Salzburg Christmas Market
  Christmas Market on the Domplatz and on the Residenzplatz.
• Krampus Runs
  Before Christmas, some people dress up as ‘Krampus’ (devils). They wear wooden masks, skins and heavy bells. At events they display their costumes and are supposed to expel evil spirits.
• Winterfest
  Modern circus art can be experienced as part of the winter festival.

WHICH DISTRICT FESTIVALS ARE THERE?

In addition to these large, general events, many districts have their own festivals which usually last several days. The most famous are the Linzergassenfest ARTmosFlair and the Kaiviertelfest. There is food, drinks and music in the streets for all visitors.
